Environmentally Enriched Cat Retirement in Southern California
Set your cat up for lifelong care in one of our Retirement Homes at the National Cat Protection Society.
A forever home for cats who have outlived their humans
Our Retirement Home Program offers cat-centered protection and services for felines whose owners can no longer care for them. We provide plenty of TLC, on-site veterinary attention, and a permanent place to call home — no cages, no time limits, just our cat-loving staff fighting for felines, every single day.
NatCat operates two dedicated Retirement Homes — NatCat Newport Pier in Newport Beach, Orange County, and NatCat Paradise in Spring Valley, San Diego County. Each home is purpose-built for senior and displaced cats, with environmentally enriched spaces where retired residents can climb, lounge in the sun, and socialize with other gentle souls.
“We have been tirelessly protecting cats’ lives in this kitty-corner area of the world for over six decades — and that includes the cats whose humans can no longer be there for them.”
We accept retirement cats whose owners have passed away, entered hospice or assisted living, or otherwise can no longer provide care. Eligibility is determined through a conversation with our team and a review by our veterinary partners — we want to be sure each cat is a good fit for the social, free-roaming environment of our homes.
Once accepted, your cat becomes part of our forever family. They receive daily attention from our cat-loving staff, ongoing wellness care through our on-site clinic, and a community of fellow retirees to keep them company. This is not boarding. This is a home.
What our Retirement Homes provide
Lifelong, in-home care — not a cage, not a kennel, not a countdown.
Environmentally enriched living
Spacious, cage-free indoor and outdoor enclosures with climbing structures, sunny windows, and quiet napping nooks designed around how cats actually want to live.
On-site veterinary attention
Wellness exams, medication management, and senior-cat care delivered by our on-site clinic and trusted veterinary partners — no stressful transport required.
Daily TLC from our staff
Our cat-loving staff knows every resident by name and personality. Brushings, lap time, conversation, and play are part of the daily routine.
A permanent forever family
Once your cat is accepted into the Retirement Home Program, they stay with us for the rest of their life. No rehoming, no transfers, no surprises.

How retirement placement works
1. Reach out to our team
Call us or send an inquiry. We’ll talk through your cat’s age, health history, and personality to see whether the Retirement Home Program is the right fit.
2. Veterinary review
We coordinate with our veterinary partners to review your cat’s medical records and confirm eligibility for our social, free-roaming home environment.
3. Welcome home
Once accepted, we arrange a thoughtful transition into either NatCat Newport Pier or NatCat Paradise — and your cat becomes part of the NatCat family for life.
